George W. Wallis, 78, of Springfield died at 6:52 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2011, at his home. He was born March 4, 1933, in Columbia, MO, the son of Clifford and Marion Bisbee Wallis. He married Roselyn Adams on November 27, 1964, and she survives. Also surviving are three sons, Johnathan (Amanda) Wallis of Ashburn, VA, Christopher (Laura) Wallis of Fox River Grove, IL, and George (Angel) Wallis of Bettendorf, IA; seven grandchildren: Claire, Peter, Lauren, Lydia, Margaret, Timothy and Jillian; one sister Anne Wallis Bull of Waitsfield, VT; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
George was a resident of Springfield since February of 1960 and taught at Springfield High School until his retirement in 1994. He was an Army veteran and formerly sang with the Land of Lincoln Barbershop Chorus. He was a member of the Springfield Education Association and held a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Missouri.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Staab Funeral home. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Staab Funeral Home with Ken Hage officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Land of Lincoln Barbershop Chorus or Habitat for Humanity.
