Nathaniel Edward Wells, 65, a longtime resident of Waterbury and more recently of Waitsfield, passed away in the comfort of his family at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, on Friday, May 6, 2011. Born in Hardwick on December 20, 1945, he was the son of the late Stanley E. and Florence (Eastman) Wells.
Nathaniel attended Waterbury High School and then served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he went to work first at the Carpenter Farm in Waitsfield, and then became a heavy equipment operator working for the H.A. Manosh Corp. for many years. He later was employed as an equipment operator for the G.W. Tatro Co. of Jeffersonville, VT, from which he retired. Nathaniel is lovingly remembered for the care he provided for his parents so they could remain at home and for the love he shared with his children, grandchildren and siblings.
His memberships included the National Rifle Association and in his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, photography, traveling and spending time outdoors.
Nathaniel is survived by two sons, Marty Wells and his wife Tracy of Duxbury and their daughters, Natalee and Emalee Wells, and Shannon Wells of Duxbury and his daughters, Michaela and Megan Wells; a sister, Elaine Sumner and her husband Stanley of Montpelier; two brothers, Clayton Wells and his wife Bev of Waterbury and Nathan Wells and his wife Mary of Barton; as well as nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Heather Mack of Northfield, whom he thought of as a daughter.
A celebration of Nathaniel’s life will be held from the Waterbury American Legion, 16 Stowe Street, in Waterbury on Friday, May 13, 2011, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.
