Ethel E. Vasseur passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010, after a long
illness. A lifelong resident of central Vermont, she worked for The
Reddy Company, MH Fishman's, Montpelier Steam Laundry, and later in life
as a chef for the Montpelier Elks Club and the East Montpelier school
system.
She was born in Worcester, Vermont, on November 11, 1924, the eldest
daughter of Ezra and Eva (Bolio) Demers. She was predeceased by three
siblings, Margaret Chapin, Arlene Coppins and Robert Demers, and two
husbands, John R. Holden in 1949 and Adrien Vasseur in 2001.
She is survived by her daughter Diana M. Thurston of Orange, her son
Robert J. Holden of Moretown, and two sisters in Florida, Helen Lemieux
and Esther Sherburn. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Nancy
Benoit of Barre, H. James Clark of Barre, Deborah Posey of
Meridianville, Alabama, John Holden of Cambridge, MA, and Eli Holden of
Moretown, and seven great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be at the Barber and Lanier Funeral Home in
Montpelier on Friday, April 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. A graveside memorial
service will be scheduled at the convenience of the family on a date yet
