Anthony "Tony" Robert Germana, 86, of Lincoln Street, Waterbury, passed away in the comfort of his home and family on Monday, August 31, 2009. Born in Lawrence, MA, on June 20, 1923, he was the son of the late Anthony R. and Mabel (Fortin) Germana. On July 9, 1944, Tony married the former Marion Lemery in Boston, MA.

Tony graduated from Lawrence (MA) High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served during WWII in the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign. Wounded in action, Tony received the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star.

Moving to Vermont with his wife Marion in 1946, Tony worked for the former Eastern Magnesia Talc Mine in Moretown. He later was employed by the former F.C. Luce Co. Hardware Store in Waterbury and then retired following 16 years as manager of the former A.G. Anderson Building Supply Co. in Waterbury. His memberships included St. Andrew Catholic Church and the Harry N. Cutting American Post 59, both of Waterbury as well as the D.A.V.

In his leisure time, Tony enjoyed fishing, flower and vegetable gardening, a variety of crafts, woodworking as well as oil and watercolor painting.

Tony is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marion Germana of Waterbury; their sons, Robert J. Germana and his wife Donna of Unity, NH, and Richard J. Germana and his wife Kathleen of Waterbury Center; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Lorenzo of Methuen, MA, and Frances Robichaud and her husband Richard of Salem, NH; a brother, Richard Germana and his wife Elana of Chicopee, MA; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by two brothers, Albert and Dominic Germana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury on Friday, September 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church parish hall. Interment will take place with military honors in Holy Cross Cemetery, Duxbury. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to St. Andrew Catholic Church, 109 South Main Street, Waterbury, VT 05676, or to the Central Vermont Humane Society, P.O.
