Norman K. Langevin, 86, passed away January 8, 2007, at 10:15 a.m. in the same house he was born in at 2 Long Street in Barre after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born the son of Fred and Clara Langevin of Barre on November 24, 1920. Norman attended Barre City Graded School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1941.

He was inducted into the Army October 22, 1942, and served through October 27, 1945, during WWII in the 976 Field Artillery in Europe. He served in five theaters under the Fifth, Seventh and Eighty-third Armies in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. After coming home on October 22, 1945, he took over the family glass business, known as Langevin's Glass Shop, which he operated until 2004.

He married Assunta Rosaria Cappelletti on May 10, 1947, and they resided at 2 Long Street for all their married life.

A member since 1953, he was the longest serving member of the Barre Lions Club and served as president from 1958 through 1959. He received the Lions Club's highest award, "The Melvin Jones Fellow Humanitarian Service Award," in 1994. He spent innumerable hours for 25 years to ensure the success of the Washington County Association of the Blind.

He was a member of the St. Monica's Parish and the Marian Men's Club. He was a musician and played drums with the Ambassadors and Keynotes bands.

He was predeceased by his half brother, Arthur Peter Langevin.

Survivors include his wife, Assunta (Sue) Langevin; his four children, Mark N. Langevin of Randolph, Dorathy M. Langevin of N. Fayston, Nancy S. Fecteau of Barre, and Paul D. Langevin of Johnson; 10 grandchildren, Jenny Langevin, Jared Langevin, Christina Bouffard, Anna Reiner, Anthony Fecteau, Camilla Fecteau, Rosemary Fecteau, Daniel Langevin and Mary Langevin; 2 great-grandchildren, Robert Lutin and Shane Langevin.

A funeral mass was celebrated January 12 at St. Monica's Church with burial following at Hope Cemetery. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Barre Lions Club, Eye Conservation Fund, Box 211, Barre, VT 05641.
