David W. DeFreest, 79, a lifelong resident and well-known Warren dairy farmer passed away at his Airport Road home following a brave battle with cancer on Sunday morning, October 1, 2006. Born in Warren on November 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Charles and Josie (Robinson) DeFreest. On February 20, 1954, he married the former Marlene Farrow in North Ryegate.
David was a 1944 graduate of Waitsfield High School and as a young man, worked on the family farm in East Warren. Hard working and with his life dedicated to farming, he owned and operated his own farm in Warren for many years. He served the town of Warren as a selectman and was a member of Mad River Lodge #77 F&AM for over 50 years. David enjoyed time spent with family and liked listening to the Boston Red Sox on the radio.
David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marlene DeFreest of Warren; their children, Dorothy Lovely and her husband, Steve, of Waitsfield, June DeFreest of Warren, Ruth DeFreest of Hinesburg, Dixie Krusch of Warren, Joyce DeFreest and her husband, Duain Abbott, of Victor, Montana; David DeFreest II, Ted DeFreest and his wife, Tammy, Tom DeFreest, and Peter DeFreest and his wife, Marnie, all of Warren; 18 grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Martin of Rochester; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial gifts would be appreciated to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1460, Williston, VT 05495. Arrangements are in the care of the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Waterbury.
