Clair Joseph Forkey, 91, a longtime resident of Waterbury, passed away in the comfort of his family on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre. Born in Burlington on March 28, 1915, he was the son of the late Albert and Emma (LeClair) Forkey. On July 17, 1933, he married the former Sophy M. Ravlin in Waterbury. Mrs. Forkey passed away on November 5, 1994.
Clair attended schools in Waterbury and went on to be a well respected businessman in the central Vermont area. For nearly 30 years he owned and operated the Waterbury Fuel Company, retiring in 1976. His memberships included Copley Country Club in Morrisville, Winooski Lodge #49 F&AM and the Shiners, as well as St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury.
In his leisure time, Clair enjoyed playing golf, traveling, woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family.
Clair is survived by a daughter, Eileen Touchette and her husband Ed of Duxbury, 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two children, Emma Marshall and Raymond Forkey.
A service of remembrance was held graveside in Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury on Saturday, September 16, at 11 a.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
