Bronfin

Cecile H. Bronfin (83) passed away peacefully in her home in Warren, Vermont, on February 7, 2025, with her loving husband Barry Bronfin by her side. Cecile was a New Year’s baby, born in Mount Vernon, New York, to Florence and Isidor Leinwand. Her love and generosity knew no bounds; she embraced her family and created extended family throughout her life.

Cecile was amazing: a brilliant mind and mathematician. In 1960s, she programmed the NASA Apollo space flights’ reentry trajectories. She believed in equality and human rights, and hosted families from around the world helping them build lives with great opportunity and free from oppression. She volunteered her time; providing religious training and outreach to underprivileged children; and teaching computer programming to corporate groups nationwide.

Cecile was a graduate of Simmons University with a B.S. in mathematics (1963), and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with an M.S. in computer systems (1968), whereafter she became an instructor in its Department of Computer Science teaching graduate courses. She loved community and supported local theater, education, charities, and Jewish groups.

Nothing brought Cecile more joy than her children and her grandchildren. Cecile is survived by her husband Barry, her children and their spouses Michael and Lesley Brovner, Wendy and Brian Bloom, and Barbara and John Egan, her adoring grandchildren Ian, Tabitha, Ellie, Willy and Johnny, and her siblings Harris, Robert and Midge Leinwand and is predeceased by Lenore and William Godin.

As a strong supporter of education in lieu of flowers please consider a gift to Simmons University, the Alzheimer’s Drug and Discovery Foundation or the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service in her name.
