Genevieve A. Vislocky, 92, died Monday, September 12, 2016, at River Oaks Assisted Living in Port Royal, South Carolina. She was born in South Orange, New Jersey, on July 21, 1924, the daughter of Peter and Catherine Hector. In her youth, she grew up in South Orange, attending South Orange High School.
She married the love of her life, John Vislocky Jr., in New Jersey on September 27, 1947. They made their home in Ford and Flanders, New Jersey, before moving to Waitsfield in June 2005. John predeceased her on May 2, 2013.
She was a member of her high school choir, an accomplished roller skater and instructor, and beauty contestant winner, Miss Irvington, New Jersey. She had worked for Prudential Life Insurance for many years. She was a homeowner and was very active in community soup kitchens and singing at area nursing homes. She was a very talented soprano, singing in church choirs as soloist as well as oratorios and opera in the Morris County Chorale and Mad River Chorale throughout her lifetime. She was also an excellent athlete, great swimmer, known for her “floating,” avid tennis player, participated in the Senior Olympics, having won in swimming, tennis and track and field.
She enlisted in the United States Coast Guard during WWII and was stationed at Atlantic City and Palm Beach, Florida, as a radioman third class, where she met her husband, John.
She is survived by her children, Barbara A. Clarke and spouse R. Walter Clarke III of St. Helena, South Carolina, and John Vislocky III and spouse Jeannette of Ogdensburg, New Jersey; grandchildren, John Julian Vislocky of Johns Island, South Carolina, and Rachel Vislocky of Ogdensburg, New Jersey; nieces and nephews, Patricia Markley, Peter Voight, Joan York, John Superdock and Denice Cuomo.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her sister, Gertrude Voight.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 20, at 3 p.m. at the Northfield Falls Cemetery in Northfield Falls, behind St. Jacob of Alaska Church. Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield is assisting with the arrangements.
