The full marathon will have racers start on the Slow Road and run down to Bridge Street. From there they will run up the East Warren Road, turning left on Joslin Hill Road. At the intersection of Joslin Hill and North Road, racers will take North Road to Meadow Road, turning around after 1.3 miles. They will run back along the Meadow Road to the intersection with Waitsfield Common and run along Waitsfield Common until they hit the East Warren Road.
Runners will stay on the East Warren Road until the Roxbury Mountain Road, taking that road until they turn right onto Senor Road. From Senor Road, racers will proceed to Fuller Hill, take Fuller Hill to Plunkton Road and Plunkton Road to Brook Road.
At the intersection of Plunkton Road and Brook Road, racers will turn right, back on to the East Warren Road and follow it down past the Round Barn and down through the Waitsfield covered bridge and back onto Route 100 to finish at the Mad River Green.
The half marathon, billed as the Mad Half, is an out and back route with racers turning around at 6.55 miles on the North Road.
Dori Ingalls, race organizer, anticipates some 1,000 runners and a significant economic impact on The Valley. They presented the select board with data from the Vermont Department of Tourism showing that an average overnight visitor spends $239 per day on lodging, shopping, recreation, food and beverage. A party of two people spends $339 per day. A typical marathoner will spend 3.5 days on location with a family member or approximately $1,186. If half of the race participants were overnight visitors, the impact on The Valley would be revenues of $593,250.
