2010 Fourth of July parade and festivities

Timeline

8:00 a.m.:

• Vendors must have arrived in Warren preparing for set up. Night before set up is fine.

• Mad Bus begins running from Lincoln Peak (Sugarbush) and Yestermorrow School (Route 100 north of Warren) until 4:15p.m. 8:30 a.m.

• Main Street Warren closed to vehicular traffic at north Main Street entrance, intersection of south Main Street and Covered Bridge Road, intersection of Brook Road and School Road, intersection Fuller Hill and Main Street. Only essential and pre-authorized traffic will be allowed through. Parking for individuals with disabilities will be at Municipal building and at the grist stone/commuter parking area. Handicap parking placard must be clearly displayed.

• Floats should arrive by this time, entering the village from South Main Street and Route 100 (NOT Covered Bridge Road) and line up in the order you arrive, or as assigned by the Float Patrol. Floats and marchers should be respectful of Float Patrol and stay in the order assigned. Floats and marchers do not need to register, simply show up. No horses allowed. Cows, yaks and wildebeest with handlers and poop scoopers welcome. Incorporate the theme: Life, Liberty, & the Pursuit of Healthiness. Front Row spots to be determined by Steve Butcher, Parade Starter.

• Buddy Badges go on sale for $1 entry fee donation at each gate into town and chance to win a prize if you spot your matching number. All proceeds collected go to support the event, so donations over $1 are welcome!

• WDEV broadcasts live on 96.1fm from the porch of the Pitcher Inn.

10:00 a.m. We await Clive's Cannon and the signal to start the parade from the south end of Main Street by covered bridge moving north on Main Street, turning right on Brook Road toward Warren School. Floats MAY park at Town Garage on School Road. Cars may not park there.

11:15am Parade winds down, Jimmy Yozell & Friends (sponsored by Sugarbush, Mad River Glen and Waitsfield Champlain Valley Telecom) warm up on the porch of the Warren Store and the street dance begins. Simultaneous activities at Brooks Field and Sugarbush Lincoln Peak.

Noon+/- Music and street dance begin in Warren Village as well as at Brooks Field at Warren School. Mad Mountain Scramblers (sponsored by Jamieson Insurance and Long Trail Financial) entertain revelers at Brooks Field. Purple Moon Pub hosts a beer and beverage garden at Brooks Field. There is no alcohol allowed in Warren Village, with the rule strictly enforced by security personnel. Please respect the rules.

Limited street opening as crowds disburse. Warren Village Main Street from intersection of Brook Road south to Flat Iron Road remain closed.

Noon Sugarbush opens Disc Golf, lift served Mountain Biking, Zip Line, BBQ, live music, kids activities and more.

3:00 p.m. Warren Village and Brooks Field activities wind down, streets reopen.

4 p.m. Madbus ends its free shuttle service to Yestermorrow and Lincoln Peak.

6 p.m. Jimmy Yozell & Friends make an encore appearance at Sugarbush Lincoln Peak for the evening. Keep dancing!

9:15 +/- Fireworks at Sugarbush Lincoln Peak. Arrive EARLY.

Key Features this year:

• Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Healthiness is the theme, use it with creativity!

• There is a rumor of live music to be included in the parade this year.

• Scottish Highland Games demonstration will be held at Brooks Field as part of the post-parade festivities.

• 4 wheel cart for transporting people and goods is sponsored by L.W. Greenwood

• Recycling bins by the large dumpster at Warren Store and at Brooks Field for Glass, Plastic, Paper. Sponsored by Casella and Mad River Solid Waste Alliance.

• Event Organizer this year, Susan Klein with assistance of Steve Butcher. Addi Munro and Robin McDermott are Parade Announcers. Karen Anderson and Audrey Mosley are Float Patrol and Judge Handlers.

• Dumpster Diva, sponsored by Casella (street cleaner) is Susan Klein.

No Air National Guard fly-bys in Vermont this year due to runway construction.

Organizer's Wish List for 2010

• Happy Tail: Please leave your dog at home. You will have a lot more fun than your canine friend, who would be much more comfortable at home.

• Clean Streets: There are always spare trash bags in the cans on the street. If you see a full can, feel free to pull out the full bag and replace with an empty bag. If you see trash on the street, consider picking it up and placing in a can.

Chicky Stoltz plays Hostel Tevere

Chicky Stoltz of Warren will be performing original Americana music this Friday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m., at the Hostel Tevere in Warren. He will be accompanied by his electric guitar and silver sparkle kick drum. The performance will take place on the deck, weather permitting, and indoors if not.

"July 4th Warren, Vermont" video retrospective

Charlie Brown Productions of Warren will present a 45-year retrospective presentation of "July 4th Warren, Vermont" outside the Sugarbush Gate House (inside if it rains) on July 3. The band is slated to start at 8 p.m. with the video following at 9 p.m. Dancing will start after the film. There will be a barbeque and beverages served.

Eames Brothers to play the Waitsfield Farmers' Market

The Eames Brothers are scheduled to play the Waitsfield Farmers' Market on Saturday, July 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Mad River Green in Waitsfield. Ceramic shard mosaic exhibition at the Big Picture Theater

The Big Picture Theater and Gallery in Waitsfield will host Bette Ann Libby and students' ceramic shard mosaic exhibition from June 28 to July 29, with an opening celebration scheduled for July 7 at 6 p.m. The exhibition features the work of Laura Arnesen, Marcia Cohen, Tara Hamilton, Nancy Mobley, Jess Mobley, Mary Lou Navin, Kim Pashby, Nancy Segal, Carolyn Siccama, Jane Stanhope, Carly Trapeni, Connie Van Heuven and Amalia Elena Veralli. Final weekend of An Ideal Husband

The Valley Players production of An Ideal Husband closes out its run with shows at 7:30 p.m. on July 1, 2, and 3, at the Valley Players Theater on Main Street in Waitsfield. Mesmerized and enthusiastic crowds have been struck by stunning costumes, an elaborate set and a strong and talented cast. The storyline is intriguing, clever and, at times, quite humorous. Brooklyn jazz songstress Jean Rohe will play the Big Picture in Waitsfield on July 7 at 7 p.m.

Rohe was born in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1984. She grew up singing and performing folk music with her family. A graduate of the New School Jazz program and its undergrad liberal arts division, Eugene Lang College, Rohe has sung in venues throughout New York City, including the Birdland, Sweet Rhythm, the Cornelia Street Café, Detour, Barbés, and others, as well as venues on the West Coast, in Canada, Cuba, and Brazil. In July 2006, she won second place as well as the Audience Choice Award in the Shure Vocal Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Rohe makes up a part of David Moore's Bing and Ruth and Hector Morales's Afrodita. She teaches and performs music for young children at public schools.
