To The Editor:
On behalf of the Waitsfield Water Commission, I want to encourage Waitsfield residents to vote yes on Tuesday, July 30, for the proposed water main and service extension to Eagles Resort. For those of you who don't know, Eagles Resort has recently been unable to meet their current water needs with their existing on-site wells. They approached the Water Commission about the possibility of a line extension to provide a safe, cost-effective and long-term solution to their drinking water needs. We have an opportunity to secure a USDA Rural Development loan to pay for the design, permitting and construction of the extension. The loan payments would be completely paid by the fees paid by the Eagles Resort members and no burden will be placed on Waitsfield taxpayers or water customers. The project will also extend fire protection. If Eagles Resort is connected to the water system, they will increase the water user base by 9 percent. This will ultimately decrease the annual expense of the water system for current and future water customers.
