I'm infuriated by the quote from a resident that described our road
crew as "boys playing with dump trucks," and calling out the person in
charge, who has worked hard to keep our roads passable and in great
condition longer than I've been alive.
I want to point out that our road crew often goes beyond the call when
the situation demands, such as the flooding that ravaged town roads
this summer. Our road crew and commissioner were out on the road in the
dead of night, surveying the situation and coming up with a plan to
remedy the problem. When there's a foot of snow on the road, town crews
are out to make them passable. When hills become sheets of ice, the
road crew is there to sand them and keep the roads safe.
Concerned about the amount of sand used on our roads? One only has to
listen to a police and fire scanner to know why they use the sand that
they do. While other towns are out on call after call responding to car
accidents and slide-offs, we respond to far less in comparison, and I
credit this to the vigilance and experience of our road crew knowing
where to put the sand and how much to use.
While the residents may have issues with the garage, pointing fingers
at those who have served the town of Moretown for years is not the
answer. They have to deal with the hand they're dealt, and they should
be commended for their work, not harassed for doing their jobs. Support
your local road crew!
