Congratulations, good luck and good kicks
Congrats to the boys’ and girls’ golf teams of Harwood Union High School, who both walked away with State Division II Golf Championships this past week, led by their coach, Brian McCarthy. The school is still checking records, but this may be the first time that one school has won both the male and female competitions in the same year, so here’s to making history (maybe)!
While the golf season may be over, five athletes on the track & field team have qualified for the New England Track & Field Championships. Laurel Whitney, India Harvey, Jaime Thomas, Mitchel Kuiper and Lauren Alexander will all represent Harwood this Saturday at Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine, so wish them well.
And, in less-competitive sports news, a group of students at Harwood Union High School will be holding a kickball tournament fundraiser at Couples Field in Waitsfield this Sunday, June 10, at 10 a.m.
The cost to participate is $5 per person, and the money raised from the event will go towards recovery efforts from Tropical Storm Irene in both Waterbury and The Valley. Teams will be decided the day of the tournament, although you are welcome to arrive with a team already formed. There will be free snacks and drinks and a jar for donations, making the event a great way for the community to come together as a whole, have a good time, and help those who are still struggling from the effects of the storm.
