Kenneth P. Brothers, 83, of Fayston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. Born in Waterbury on December 30, 1929, he was the son of the late Enos and Gladys (Nelson) Brothers. On January 10, 1954, he married the former Beverly A. Moulton in Waitsfield.
Ken was a 1948 graduate of Waitsfield High School and then went on to work clearing trails for the developing Mad River Glen Ski Area in Fayston. In 1949, Ken began a 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his discharge, Ken worked several years as an electronics educator for Control Data and then returned to the Mad River Valley, settling in Fayston. Once here, he and his wife owned and operated Ken and Bev's Gas and Grocery Store on Route 17 until 1976, and then operated Larry's Redemption Center in Fayston for several years. Ken's next venture found him enjoying working for the Fayston Elementary School system, both as a custodian and bus driver for 10 years and then retired in 1989 as a bus driver for Harwood Union High School in Duxbury.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, genealogy as well as hunting and fishing.
Ken is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Brothers of Fayston; their children, Linda Moulton and her partner Carl Dupont of Warren, Sue Belanger and her husband Bill of Roxbury, Ruth Brothers of Waitsfield, Larry Brothers and his wife Janet of Royalton and Stephen Brothers of Fayston; 16 grandchildren, David, Sharon, Matthew, Jaime, Connie, Amy, Jennifer, Adam, Todd, Scott, Shiloh, Jason, Chris, Stacy, Jessica and Benjamin; 15 great-grandchildren, Briar, Kelci, Riley, Caden, Laura, Lexi, Christian, Cooper, Liam, Tegan, Jonathan, Cailin, Addison, Heaven and Connor; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Ken was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Percy Brothers.
