Robert J. "Bob" Kellett, 91, passed away at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin on Monday evening, November 25, 2013. Born in Duxbury on October 4, 1922, he was the son of the late Alderic and Annis (Ring) Kellett. On October 18, 1943, he married the former Maydene Durett in Waterbury.
Bob was a 1940 graduate of Waterbury High School and then went on to work at Fellows Gear Shaper Co. in Springfield. Following his marriage to Maydene, together they purchased a dairy farm on Gregg Hill in Waterbury Center, which they operated until 1960. Bob then purchased and ran Bob's Shell Station on South Main Street in Waterbury for several years.
A craftsman at heart, Bob decided to pursue the building trades, forming the OK Construction Co. with fellow builder and friend Richard Orfield. In later years, Bob continued construction with Dick Aylward, retiring at the age of 84.
Bob and Maydene built a camp on Holland Pond where they spent many happy years fishing and enjoying the company of family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife and best friend of 70 years, Maydene Kellett of Waterbury Center; their children, Susan Gilbert and her husband Edmund of Eden and Stephen Kellett and his wife Mary of Waterbury Center; 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Bob is predeceased by four sisters, Kathryn Nichols, Evelyn Truax, Margaret Richardson and Bethany Morse; and two brothers, Alderic Kellett and Paul Kellett.
Memorial services were held from Waterbury Center Community Church on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at 11 a.m., with a reception following in the church dining room.
