Randall E. “Randy” Luce, 83, of Bridgeman Street, Barre, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on May 6, 1930, in Warren, he was the son of Ernest B. and Mabel (Brooks) Luce. He attended Middlesex Elementary School and later received his GED. He graduated from the Vermont State School of Agriculture in Randolph. During the Korean Conflict, from 1950 to 1953, he served in United States Army.
Randy married Betty Jean Brothers in the Waitsfield Methodist Church. They made their home in Barre.
He first worked for the Seal Soda Company in Barre. Later, Randy worked for the Barre City Fire Department, was a transportation agent for Northeast, Executive and Air New England Airlines at the Knapp Airport in Berlin, and worked for the Barre Recreational Department BOR, retiring in November of 1994.
Randy was a member of the American Legion Post 10 and the VFW MacKenzie–Webster Post 790, both of Barre.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, summers at camp on Island Pond and especially time spent with family and friends.
Randy is survived by his wife, Betty Luce of Barre; two daughters, Monica Leadbetter and her husband Raymond of Gilbert, AZ, and Audrey Luce of Randolph Center; three granddaughters, Stacey Leadbetter and her partner Paul Thayer, Katy Leadbetter, and Kristy Dickinson and her husband Keith; four great-grandsons, Cameron Cahill, Reese Thayer, Justin Dickinson, and Ryan Dickinson; three sisters, Leona Neill of Barre, Vera Ward and her husband Ronald of Moretown, and Geralene Thompson of Rowayton, CT; a stepbrother, Lester Cameron of Moretown; and several nieces and nephews.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bert Luce, and a sister, Arlene Crete.
His funeral service and celebration of his life was held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street in Barre. Interment was in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
