Raymond T. Devine, 86, of Burlington passed away due to complications of life on February 14, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care surrounded by family.
Ray was born in Montpelier to Thomas and Grace (Thayer) Devine on March 14, 1926, and attended Waterbury High School. On July 2, 1949, he married the former Alice Morse in Waterbury. He entered the U.S. Navy and served proudly from 1943 to 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations and then again during the Korean War with the Vermont Army National Guard from 1950 to 1952.
Ray worked at Lane Manufacturing in Montpelier and later worked as a finish carpenter for several different companies. He retired from Sundown Corporation in 1991. His memberships included St. Andrew Catholic Church and the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post 59, both in Waterbury. Ray enjoyed woodworking in his shop, hunting, fishing and, most importantly, time with his family.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Alice Devine of Burlington; two sons, Richard (Gwen) Devine of Waterbury Center and Michael Devine and his companion, Jo-Ann Kenyon, of Burlington. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Andrew (Adrienne) of Merrimack, NH, Adam of Breckenridge, CO, Bridget (Marcin) of Williston, Derek of Burlington; and his great-grandchildren, Sophia, Noah and Natalie Eve; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family. He also leaves his sister, Dorothy (Lyle) Peterson of So. Burlington. His brother, Robert Devine, and his parents predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury on Wednesday, February 20, at 10 a.m. with a reception following in the Parish Hall. Friends called at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Later committal services will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury.
Raymond’s family would like to extend their deep appreciation for the care, kindness and compassion shown by the staff and nurses with the VNA of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties, the State of Vermont Choices for Care Program and to Dr. Amy Siegel of Appletree Bay Medical Center in Burlington.
