Harold A. Perry, 88, of Business Center Road, Williamstown, died at his home on Thursday, February 7, 2013.
Harold was born on October 28, 1924, the son of Claude and Mildred (Porter) Perry. He graduated from Stowe High School on June 11, 1943.
Following his education, Harold was a pilot in WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps as a flight officer for the last two and one-half years of the war. Harold married Alice M. Smith on August 17, 1946. She predeceased him on January 13, 2006.
He worked at various jobs over the years including clearing trails for Sugarbush, upholstery work at Henry Girard’s Upholstery Shop on Main Street, Montpelier, and in 1961 became a rural mail carrier in Moretown, Vermont. Harold and Alice also owned and operated Alice’s Store and Laundromat in Moretown. Harold retired on May 28, 1983. Harold and Alice started spending winters in Orange City, Florida, and summers at Kampersville on Lake Dunmore. After giving up camping, they moved to Williamstown in 2003.
Harold loved spending time with his family and enjoyed computers and electronic gadgets. He was a fan of NASCAR and the New York Yankees. An animal lover, he very much enjoyed spending time with his “grand-pets,” especially his buddy, “Spark Plug.”
He is survived his children, Harold A. Perry Jr. of Northfield, Dennis A. Perry of Syracuse, NY, Gary Perry of Barre, and Cindy Greenslit and her husband Kenny of Williamstown; grandchildren, Stephen Perry of Williamston, Gregory Perry of Maine, Amanda Haskins of Waterbury, Shawna Greenslit and Misty Greenslit, both of Chester; seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 16, from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. at Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m.
