Mavis I. Ricketts, 79, a lifelong resident of the Mad River Valley, passed away in the comfort of her family at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin on Saturday evening, March 24, 2012. Born in Waitsfield on April 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Edythe (Brothers) LaVanway. Mavis married Clyde “Sonny” Ricketts in Fort Dix, NJ. Clyde predeceased Mavis on October 12, 1996.
In early years, Mavis was involved with 4-H and later was an in-home care provider. She retired in 2003 and continued enjoying her family and hobbies.
Mavis is survived by her children, Donna Settino and her husband Edward of Wolfeboro, NH, Douglas Ricketts and his companion Suzie Ricketts Pennington of East Warren, and Clyde Damon Ricketts and his companion Katherine Tomes of Hooksett, NH; four grandsons, Sean Ricketts and his wife Melissa, Austin Ricketts, Schuyler Ricketts and Justin Ricketts; four great-grandchildren, Shawna, Samantha and Dara Ricketts and Timmy Jesshope; two brothers, Dowen LaVanway of Waitsfield and Roger LaVanway and his wife Judy of Moretown; three cherished sister-in-laws, Zelda LaVanway of North Fayston, Barbara LaVanway of Windsor and Beverly Blanchard of White River Jct.; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mavis is predeceased by a granddaughter, Shelby Ricketts Jesshope; three sisters, Constance Ruiz, Kitty Dalley and Julia Dennler; and two brothers, Clarence “Sonny” LaVanway and Albert LaVanway Jr.
