Barbara B. Cain, 76, passed away at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin on Friday evening, October 14, 2011. Born in Paterson, NJ, on February 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Henry H. and Marion P. Bastedo. On July 28, 1956, Barbara married Jerre M. Cain in Glen Rock, NJ. Jerre passed away on January 13, 2007.
Barbara was a 1953 graduate of Ridgewood (NJ) High School and continued her education at Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, where she received her associate’s degree in 1955.
Barbara worked as a medical secretary for several years while living in New Jersey and in 1975, she and Jerre moved to Vermont. Settling in the Mad River Valley, Barbara worked as a dental assistant and later as a bookkeeper. An avid skier, she and Jerre where longtime members of the Mad River Glen Ski Patrol and Barbara also was a 25-year crewmember of the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service. An avid bicyclist as well, she also enjoyed creating art, painting and gardening.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Scott A. Cain of Homestead, PA, and Glenn E. Cain of Alma, CO; two granddaughters, Emily and Abigail Cain; a sister, Laura M. Cosgrove of Rockaway, NJ; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
Memorial services will be held from the Mad River Glen Base Lodge on Saturday, October 22, 2011, from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service, P.O.
