Brett Seidenberg of St. Petersburg, Florida, formally of Waitsfield, Vermont, and New Orleans, Louisiana, died suddenly on Sunday, July 17, 2011, from complications of lung cancer.
He was the son of Judy Dodds of Waitsfield and Jean Seidenberg of Covington, Louisiana.
Brett was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 8, 1959. As a young boy, he was interested in music and played the trumpet and piano. Later in life, he also mastered the guitar and numerous keyboards. He started several bands in New Orleans in the 1980s, among them Ooogum Boogum and Expo. He came by his interest in music from his maternal grandfather, Earl Crumb, who was the drummer in an early New Orleans jazz band, the New Orleans Owls in the 1920s.
When Brett moved to St. Petersburg in the 1990s he played keyboard and guitar in several bands and teamed up with singer Tara Webster and formed the duo "Brett and Tara.” Brett was the first one to volunteer for charity concerts for special causes in St. Petersburg and was always the life of the party, as his friends can attest to. He also had an interest in electronics and made electronic sales his business career. As a child, Brett spent many summers with his family in Warren, Vermont, from 1964 through 1969 and made many friends which he still has today.
Brett attended Isidore Newman school in New Orleans, Harwood Union Middle School in Waitsfield and Woolman Hill Quaker School in Deerfield, MA. After he moved back to New Orleans in the 1980s, he attended the University of New Orleans. In 1983, he married Rosemary Harrison of Greenwood, Mississippi . They were divorced eight years later.
He is survived by his mother Judy Dodds and stepfather Jim Dodds of Waitsfield, his sister Eugenie Seidenberg Delaney and husband Michael and their daughter Madeleine Jean Delaney of North Ferrisburgh, Vermont, and by his father, Jean Seidenberg and stepmother, Charlotte Seidenberg, of Covington, Louisiana.
A memorial service is planned at Sunset Beach, St. Petersburg, for Brett's Florida friends on Sunday, July 24, 2011, one hour before sunset and a second service in Waitsfield sometime in August. Formal arrangements will be made by David C. Gross Funeral Home, St. Petersburg, Florida.
