She mentored at Thatcher Brook Elementary School and Crossett Brook Middle School, tutored through the Vermont Adult Basic Education Program and gave her time to several political campaigns.
Mary was most passionate for family athletics, good mystery novels, the performing arts, animals and nature. She spent many years enjoying horseback riding and schooling students in English-style riding.
Her favorite pastime was hiking to the stream or Waterbury Reservoir with her dogs, digging in her flower gardens, catching up with family, playing cards and reading. She was a loyal fan to the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, the PGA, tennis and NASCAR.
