Forrest E. "Forry" Houston, age 92, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away on September 20, 2010, at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach. There are no services planned.

Born on August 15, 1918, Mr. Houston moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1988 from the Boston, Massachusetts, area and his vacation home in Warren, Vermont. Mr. Houston was born in Pasco, Washington, and was raised in Bellingham, Washington. He attended the University of Washington and graduated early from the U.S. Naval Academy on December 7, 1941, so he could serve in the Pacific during WWII. His sea duty assignments were in the gunnery departments of the Louisville, Dayton and the Duluth cruisers, with his last being the Gun Boss of the Duluth.

After retirement, Mr. Houston attended the Navy P.G. School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, receiving a M.S. degree in electrical engineering from MIT. He went to work for the Instrumentation Laboratory where he remained until his second retirement in 1983. At the Instrumentation Lab, which later became the C.S. Draper Lab, Mr. Houston held various positions including associate director and department head, responsible for the design and development of the guidance systems for the Navy's Fleet Ballistic Missiles.
 
Forrest and his wife Fiona traveled extensively, including many golfing trips throughout the U.S. and Europe. He was a member of the Sugar Mill Country Club in New Smyrna Beach and a former member of the Sugarbush Golf Club in Warren, Vermont.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Fiona; a son, Dale Houston and his wife Marguerite; a daughter, Patricia Warnock and her husband Robert; two granddaughters, Kelly Grez and her husband Armand and Jennifer Warnock; one great-granddaughter, Penelope Grez; and his cats, "Archer" and "Sam Houston."
