Jack C. Keir Ph.D., age 92, of North Hartland, Vermont, and Bradenton, Florida, an energetic and innovative entrepreneur and professor, died on August 30, 2010, at his daughter's home in Wilmington, Delaware.
He is survived by a wife, Anne Haurilick Keir of North Hartland; daughter, Rosalind Freeman of Wilmington, DE; son, John Keir of Plymouth Meeting, PA; daughter, Henrietta Nye of Middletown, Ohio; stepdaughter, Sherry Wood; stepson, Steven Wood; seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Windsor High School, Middlebury College, and Tufts College. During World War II, he was stationed in the Pacific and then after the war he served in Germany as part of the reconstruction effort.
After leaving the army, he taught in the business school at Kansas State College. He received his Ph.D. in insurance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Keir became a dean of The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA, and later was a professor of insurance at Temple University. He was the founder and president of Keir Educational Resources, a publishing company for the financial services industry. Throughout his life, he was an avid tennis player and enjoyed fishing. He was a major force and contributor to the construction of Blueberry Lake in Warren, Vermont.
A memorial service was held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Windsor, Vermont, on September 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. Interment was at the Ascutney Mountain Cemetery, Windsor, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
