Eva Vear Cnossen, 96, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009, at the
Lincoln House in Barre. She moved to the Lincoln House two years ago
from her home in Waitsfield. Eva fell asleep peacefully in her chair
while preparing to go to breakfast.
Eva was born in Woonsocket, RI, on December 1, 1912. The daughter of
John and Ellen Vear, Eva was one of seven siblings. At a young age,
her family moved to Massachusetts. In 1932, she married Harry Cnossen
and they had their son, Ronald. Her family moved frequently to
accommodate Harry's work as a meat and food inspector for the Federal
Department of Agriculture. Her other residences included Chicago, IL,
Nutley, NJ, Branford, CT, and Smithfield, VA. During World War II, Eva
worked in pharmaceuticals.
Eva enjoyed her involvement in the church and was an active volunteer
in Sunday school and youth fellowship activities. Eva's other interests
included knitting, crocheting, baking and spending time with her
grandchildren. She knit many pairs of baby booties, which were donated
to hospitals and displayed at craft shows throughout Vermont, and her
famous "Koala cookies" were well known to many throughout The Valley.
Her daughter-in-law, Joan Cnossen of Waitsfield, VT; her grandchildren,
Brett Cnossen of Princeton, NJ, Wendy Hawkins of Salt Lake City, UT,
John Hawkins of Burlington, VT, and Tracy Goldfine of Stowe, VT; three
great-grandchildren, Holly Cnossen, Avery Hawkins, and Max Goldfine;
and her sister, Ellen Mezynski of Worcester, MA, survive Eva. Her
husband, Harry Cnossen, and son, Ronald Cnossen, predeceased Eva.
The services for Eva are pending and will be announced. Perkins-Parker
Funeral Home in Waterbury is assisting with the arrangements.
