Her sisters are Betsy Grasso of La Jolla, CA, and Susan Martin of Tinton Falls, NJ. She is predeceased by mother Betty Madsen and her younger siblings, brother Chris Madsen and sister Muffy Hall. We miss them all indescribably. Carolyn lost her father at the tender age of 4. Lieutenant Commander Robert Hopping was a valiant Navy pilot, Executive Officer of his ship, and decorated Korean War hero. "Boots," as we loved to call Carolyn, by her childhood nickname, has joined them in a glorious reunion.
A wonderful woman whose light shone so brightly in the world, she touched all those around her with a magnificent smile, a zeal for living, and her caring ways. She made immediate friends at work and in all her travels and homes. She taught us how to love well and appreciate the gifts of family and life. Her love for gardening, golden retrievers, Mexican food and margaritas is renowned. We hold dear the memories of her at the lake house in Vermont, on the Jersey shore, and in the Florida sunshine. Her family thanks those far and wide for their support, thoughts, and prayers. She leaves a circle of friends and family that stretches across the country. Please consider a donation in her memory to Avow Hospice of Naples, Florida (avowhospice.org), or a charity of your choice.
