Evelyn was a 1938 graduate of Waterbury High School and continued her education at the University of Vermont, graduating in 1942 with a bachelor of arts degree in education. Following her marriage, Evelyn was busy as a homemaker, raising her family, and worked with her husband in the operation of Bud's Restaurant, a well-known establishment on the corner of Stowe and Main Streets in Waterbury. She also worked for her sister, Kathryn Nichols, at Nichols Lodge in Stowe for several years.
A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and wife, family meant the most to Evelyn with time spent together making her the happiest. Evelyn loved going to camp, the most recent on Holland Pond, as well as fishing and hunting. She also enjoyed sewing. She was a longtime member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury.
Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Sheldon O. "Bud" Truax of Waterbury; their children, Sharon Faunce and her husband John of Waterbury Center, and Scott Truax and his wife Della of Inverness, FL; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn Nichols of Stowe and Bethany Morse of Shelburne; two brothers, Robert Kellett and Paul Kellett, both of Waterbury Center; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Evelyn was predeceased by two sons, Thomas Truax and Jeffrey Truax; a grandson, Troy Truax; a brother, Alderic Kellett; and a sister, Margaret Richardson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury on Friday, October 5, at 2 p.m. with interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury. There will be no calling hours. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
