Leona May Wheeler, 73, passed away in the comfort of her family and friends at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on Friday, July 13, 2007. Born in Fayston on July 25, 1933, she was the eldest child of Jay and Ada (Miller) Barton.

Leona was a 1952 graduate of Waitsfield High School and on October 28 of that same year she married Robert Moulton. Following her marriage, she and her family ran the Moulton General Store on Route 17 for several years. Leona also stayed busy as a homemaker and raising her family as well as her extended family. She was previously married to Kenneth Wheeler.

Moving back to Vermont in the early 1970s, she was employed at the Vermont State Housing Authority Rental Division in Montpelier, a position she retired from following 20 years of service.

Her memberships included the auxiliary units of both the Mad River and Montpelier American Legions. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, knitting and sewing.

Leona is survived by her children, Patience Chapman and her husband, Bill, of Ozark, MO, Evaline Moulton of Graniteville, and George Moulton and his wife, Patty, of Moretown; her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her sister, Norma Wimble of Waitsfield; her two brothers, Roger Pollander of Waterbury Center and John Barton of Tucson, AZ; her best friend, Ginny Button of Chelsea; her constant companion and adoring dog, "Honey"; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.

Friends may call at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Waterbury on Thursday, July 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Mountain View Cemetery in Moretown.
