Ed spent much of his life as an accomplished auto mechanic and welder. During World War II, he performed those skills and supervised work crews in Boston building ships to support the war effort. Later he served his country in Germany with the Army as a motor pool sergeant and was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict. After the war, Ed became proprietor of the Waterbury Sunoco Station which he ran for 30 years. His wizardry at fixing broken things and making old things work like new helped him build a long list of loyal customers and friends.
Ed was a member of Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post #59, Winooski Lodge 49 F&AM and was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, all of Waterbury. His greatest love and attention was always directed toward Janice, their four children and five grandchildren. Making a safe and happy home for the family was always his primary mission and his greatest accomplishment.
He is survived by two daughters, Virginia Bockmiller and her husband Walter of Deland, FL, and Laurie Lamorey and her husband Edward of Waterbury, VT; two sons, Edward E. Morse and his wife Kathryn of Virginia Beach, VA, and David A. Morse of Waterbury, VT. He is also survived by five grandchildren and their spouses, Mechelle and Paul Dembro of Milton, Kristen and James Trombley of Essex Jct., Jennifer and Darin Savard of Milton, Jeremy Lowcock of Waterbury, and Nicholas Lowcock of Ithaca, NY; three step-grandchildren, Shelley Beane of Winooski, Colin Van Deusen and his wife Tara of Long Beach, CA, and Stacey Carr and husband Kenneth of Van Nuys, CA. Ed is also survived by one very special goddaughter, Faith Anderson, and her mother Terri of La Quinta, CA, and 19 great grandchildren.
Ed was the last sibling in his family to pass, predeceased by his parents George and Keziah, an infant brother, Perry Ulysses Morse, brothers Donald Byron and Roland Ayers Morse, and a sister, Jane Emeline Strader.
A memorial celebration was held on Tuesday, June 12, at 2 p.m., from the Wesley United Methodist Church in Waterbury with a reception following in the church dining room.
