Lawrence W. Westover Sr., 77, of Route 2, Middlesex, passed away at his home on Friday, February 23, 2007. Born in Richford on January 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Charles and Anna (Martin) Westover. On October 17, 1959, he married the former Jeanette Despault in Waterbury.
Lawrence graduated from Waterbury High School and joined the U.S. Army with which he served during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he remained with the Vermont Army National Guard and Army Reserve.
Lawrence was employed by Philbrook's Fur Farm in Middlesex Center for many years before he and his wife Jeanette owned and operated for over 17 years Westover's General Store in Middlesex. They later owned and operated Meme and Papa's Store in Riverton from which he retired.
In his leisure time Lawrence enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and camping. He was a member of the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post 59 of Waterbury.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jeanette Westover of Middlesex; their children, Gena Westover Nelson and her companion, William Paoli, of Stratford, CT, Lisa Shephard and her husband, Kris, of Moretown, Elaine Westover Soucie and her husband, Darrell, of Ashford, CT, Carla Summers of Greenville, TN, Lawrence Westover Jr. and his companion, Darcy Coutts, and Keith Westover of Waterbury; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Doris Bowen of Rochester, Theresa Bruce of Lebanon, NH, and Mabel Houghton of Passumpsic; a brother, Harland Westover Sr. of Moretown; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by three sisters, Alice Gavin, Genevieve Deyette and Hazel Collins, and a brother, Edmond Westover.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury on Wednesday, February 28, at 11 a.m. Friends called at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Spring interment with military honors will take place in the Middlesex Center Cemetery.
