Janina Bethmann, 70, of Warren passed away at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on January 10, 2007. She was born in Riga, Latvia, on June 11, 1936, the daughter of the late Janis and Alise (Dancis) Auzins. On November 25, 1956, she married Hans G. Bethmann in Takoma Park, Maryland, who predeceased her on October 8, 1997.
Janina came to the U.S. in 1949 from Germany and became a U.S. citizen in 1956. She is a 1954 graduate of Takoma Academy in Maryland. She retired from W.R. Grace - Davidson Division in 1995. She and her late husband moved to Warren, Vermont, in 1995. She was a member of the Barre-Montpelier Seventh-day Adventist Church. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, reading and visiting with friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Monica Bethmann of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; a son, Michael H. Bethmann, and a grandson, Michael H. Bethmann Jr. of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia; a sister, Skye Burger of Oakhurst, California; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Barre-Montpelier Seventh-day Adventist Church in Berlin on Monday, January 15, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church dining room. Friends may call at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Sunday, January 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be appreciated to the charity of one's choice.
