Alma S. Rennau, 86, died at her home in Pelham Manor, New York, on October 6, 2006, after a short illness. She had been an active member of the community for almost 60 years.
Alma Anne Schmieg was born on December 6, 1919, in New Rochelle, the youngest daughter of prominent cabinet-maker Karl Schmieg, who founded the furniture company Schmieg and Kotzian. She graduated from New Rochelle High School and Edgewood Park Junior College, and in 1946 she married John W. Rennau of New York City. In 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Rennau bought a house in Pelham Manor, where they raised their four children.
Mrs. Rennau was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. An avid gardener, traveler, golfer, skier and bridge player, she was most recently the captain of the Pelham Country Club Bridge Team, which captured the 2005 Inter-Club Championship. Mrs. Rennau had great affection for the beauty and charm of the Mad River Valley and visited often during the past 30 years to spend time with her Vermont family.
Mrs. Rennau was predeceased by her husband of 55 years. She is survived by her children: Nancy Rennau Tumposky of Montclair, NJ; Susan Rennau of Salt Lake City, UT; Stephen Rennau of North Fayston, VT; and John D. Rennau of Malden, MA; and by her grandchildren: Jessica Tumposky of Silver City, NM; Jesse Rennau of Warren, VT; Christopher Rennau of Bozeman, MT; Hillary Hoffman and Mercedes Hoffmann of Salt Lake City, UT; and one great-grandchild, Axan Sanchez of Silver City, NM.
A Funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Pelham Manor and internment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
