Roberta (Robin) Linton Bennett passed away early on July 30, 2016, at home comforted by her family after a long and courageously fought battle with cancer. Robin was born in 1954 in New York City and spent her childhood in Rye, New York. She attended Rye Country Day School, where she excelled in both academics and athletics.
During her early years Robin developed an affection for Vermont. She spent several summers attending camp in Ferrisburgh as well as winters skiing at Stratton and Killington. Her passion for education and sports continued throughout her adult life. After high school, she continued her studies at Brown University, earning a BA in psychology. After college, she began her professional career as a special education teacher in Newton, Massachusetts. A few years later she switched her focus to the business sector, where she worked for many years as an analyst in the investments business.
In keeping with her passion for academics, Robin took night classes while working full time and earned a master’s in business administration at Boston University. During her career in investments, she met her former spouse, Mark Bennett, whom she married in 1985. She remained in the Boston area until 1990 when the family relocated to Warren, Vermont. Robin quickly immersed herself in Vermont life. She was fiercely dedicated to her children, coaching Mad River Valley Soccer for many years, teaching figure skating at Skatium and chaperoning numerous field trips. She did not only watch her daughters do activities, she also joined in with them. Her unwavering support of her children continued into their adulthood.
When her daughters needed slightly less of her time, she began a new career in real estate. She enjoyed sharing her affinity for the Mad River Valley with those looking for housing. She became a founding partner and principal broker at Lincoln Peak Properties in Waitsfield. An exceptionally well-attended funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 2, in the Gate House Lodge with Rabbi James Glazer of Temple Sinai officiating. Robin is survived by her mother, Margot Linton of NYC; her three daughters, Michelle Bennett of Boulder, Colorado, Rebecca Bennett of Boulder, Colorado, and Darcy Faibish and her husband Avri of Brookline, Massachusetts; as well as three siblings, Tom Linton of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Jeffrey Linton of Rye, New York, and Elizabeth Linton of London, England.
