Diane Douglas, nee Mesmer, of Bailey, Colorado, transitioned to the afterlife subsequent to a brief illness on June 5, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, and her brother, Thomas Dan Mesmer, and is survived by her sister, Carole Rehkugler; nephew, Colin Rehkugler; nieces, Anina Rehkugler and Tange Barbour; as well as grandnephews, Turner and Carson Barbour, Cole Rehkugler and Tamdan McCrory; and grandnieces, Kiara Barbour, Kari Rehkugler, Jennifer Rehkugler and Tegan Viney.
Diane lived and worked in the Hartford, Connecticut, area for many years, vacationed at Shelter Island near Old Forge, New York, and retired with Frank to Evergreen and then Bailey, Colorado, to enjoy the sun, snow and open spaces.
She and her husband were avid skiers at Mad River Glen, Fayston, VT, members of the Hartford Ski Club and owners of the Monkey House at the ski area where they hosted family and friends. It was at Mad River that they met and integrated into their active lives, longtime family friend, Jep Peacock.
They began raising and breeding husky dogs in Connecticut and continued to do so in Colorado where they frequently showed their dogs and trained them in pulling dog sleds. In the last year of her life, Diane returned to driving a Porsche vehicle and could be seen enjoying its beauty and handling capabilities as part of her daily activities.
Arrangements and memorials are being managed by her dear family friend, Jep Peacock.
