Glee H. (Long) Brooks, 81, of Rockwall, Texas, formerly of North Ferrisburgh, Vermont, died peacefully surrounded by her family at Presbyterian Hospital in Rockwall on Saturday, April 23, 2016. She was born June 8, 1934, in Warren, Vermont. She is predeceased by her parents, Roy E. Long and Mildred J. (Downer) Long of Warren, Vermont; her late husband of 60 years, Donald A. Brooks of North Ferrisburgh, Vermont; and her two brothers, Sidney Long of Hancock, Vermont, and Jerome Long of Warren, Vermont.
Glee is survived by three sisters, Gloria Currier, Polly Gallagher and Melba Long all of Warren, Vermont.
Glee started out working with her father at Roy Long's store, known now as The Warren Store in Warren. She then married Donald Brooks from Port Henry, New York, on New Year's Eve in 1953. Throughout her life she worked odd jobs. She also worked side by side with her husband, Donald, and ran the American Legion in Port Henry, New York. Nothing could compare to the job she held most dear to her heart, which was raising her four children.
Glee was a loving mother to four children, 12 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren: Martin and Bobby Brooks of Penn Yan, New York, Bonnie Dillon of Penn Yan, New York (Zoe and Reece Trombley), Marcia Brooks and Andrew Metayer of Warren, Chad Stanclift of Fayston and Chelsea Stanclift of Atlanta, Georgia, Samantha and Ben Abare of Waterbury Center (Cheyenne and Sierra Abare), and Dakota Metayer of Waterbury Center, Melanie and Rick Lashua of Rockwall, Texas, Jason and Teresa Hanson of Royse City, Texas (Alex Harper, Sheradyn and Madasyn Hanson), Daniel Lashua of The Colony, Texas (Celeste Lashua), David Lashua of Bedford, Texas (Liam Lashua), Brooke and Mike Thomas of Rockwall, Texas (Carter and Parker Thomas), and Michael Brooks of North Fayston, Adam and Ashley Brooks of Northfield (Olivia and Landon Brooks), Andrew Brooks of Waterbury and Alex Brooks North Fayston.
Glee was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known by her great grandchildren in Texas as grand-mom. We were so very blessed that she asked to move down to Texas to be with her daughter Melanie and son-in-law Rick Lashua in August of 2015. Even though it was for a short time, we will always cherish the memories and the time that God allowed her to be with us. It also gave her the opportunity to spend time with her Texas family. She brought so much joy to our family that her memory will last in our hearts forever.
We will have a memorial service at her home in Rockwall, Texas, for family and friends on Sunday, May 1, 2016. Her ashes will be buried in the Warren, Vermont, cemetery along with her husband's, date to be determined.
Rest in peace, Mom; we love and will miss you.
