Daniel O. Farnham Jr., 70, of Moretown passed away in the comfort of his home and family on Thursday, February 4, 2016, following several months of declining health. Born in Montpelier on December 18, 1945, he was the son of the late Daniel O. Farnham Sr. and Irma L. (Foster) Farnham.
Dan was a 1963 graduate of Montpelier High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy and following his discharge, returned home to Moretown. Dan was employed throughout the years by several area businesses that included General Electric in Burlington, Sugarbush Resort in Warren, A.G. Anderson Concrete in Waterbury, Mad River Canoe in Waitsfield and E.A. Grandfield Inc. of Moretown. More recently he worked on construction projects with Charlie Turnbaugh, most notably the renovation of the Moretown Methodist Parsonage.
Dan was a member of the Montpelier American Legion Post 3 and in his leisure time enjoyed playing cards, watching westerns on television, listening to traditional country music and fishing and was an avid Red Sox fan. He took great pleasure in spending time with his large and loving family.
Dan is fondly remembered for his dedication and loving care he gave his mother which enabled her to stay in her home until her death. He was well known for being a man of few words and for his keen sense of humor and wit.
Dan is loved and mourned by his sisters, Linda Hendrickson and her husband Art of Moretown and Laurie Spaulding and her husband Donald of Waitsfield; his nieces and nephews, Michael Farnham and his companion Norma Bowman, Todd Farnham and his wife Kim, Arthur Hendrickson and his wife Dawn, Michelle Farnham-LaPerle and her husband Henry, Jonathan Spaulding and his wife Jodi, Kirsten Hendrickson Evans and her husband Jason, William Farnham and Danielle Spaulding; great nieces and nephews, Briana and Corey, who lived with their great-grammie Irma and uncle Danny for a time during their childhood, and Winter, Kyle, Jessica, Maxwell, Calvin and Andy; his cousins including three special cousins, Tom Farnham, Robert Freeman and Patti Fairbanks; his aunts and uncles, including a special uncle, Donald Foster, of Berlin; his good friend, Charlie Turnbaugh of Moretown; as well as extended family. Besides his parents, Dan is preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Farnham.
Memorial services will be held from Moretown United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow in the Moretown Town Hall. Later inurnment will take place in Mountain View Cemetery, Moretown. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Moretown United Methodist Church, P.O.
