Shalane A. Benoit, 39 of Claremont, New Hampshire, passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2016, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, in the loving arms of his mother, stepfather, sister and fiancée. He was born in Berlin, Vermont, on February 16, 1976.
Shalane had moved to New Hampshire with his fiancée, Jacqueline Bernard. He loved animals, especially Bud-Bud, who he enjoyed cuddling with almost more than his fiancée, despite him trying to convince us he was not a cat person. He loved children and would take his nephew Zane for a whole month in the summer. Shalane loved to spend time with his family, cook, play guitar, go hunting, loved fishing with his cousin Troy, camping up at Squid Camp in Warren with his Uncle Jim and cousin Jopey and family, biking and an occasional video game. He worked alongside his Uncle Lance but ended up playing more than working! He loved to make people laugh and was an amazing artist, whose latest passion was making homemade knives, something he learned from his grandfather Larry. His ingenuity definitely made him stand out.
He leaves behind his two beautiful children who he loved very much, daughter Winter Lily Benoit of Waterbury Center and son Tristan Benoit of Ohio; his fiancée, Jacqueline Bernard of Claremont, New Hampshire; his mother, Zana Benoit-Evans and husband Matthew Evans of Duxbury; father, Kenneth Ray Hurlburt of Waterbury; sister, Naomi Hurlburt of Duxbury, niece, Chloe, and nephew, Zane, of Duxbury; brother, Justin Hurlburt, and nephews, Levi, Wyatt, Gabriel, and niece, Iris, of southern Vermont; grandparents predeceased, Lanyard and Iris Benoit of Duxbury; grandparents predeceased, Kenneth Earl and living Jacqueline G. Hurlburt of Waitsfield; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A private remembrance celebration of Shalane's life was held at his mother's. Instead of flowers, a donation in Shalane's name to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, P.O. Box 459, South Hero, VT 05486 (www.takumta.org) would be greatly appreciated.
