Elinor Parker Jamieson, 81, passed away in the comfort of her family at The Arbors in Shelburne on Sunday evening, January 17, 2016. Born in Randolph on October 31, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Wilmond W. and Alice (Dean) Parker. On June 19, 1954, she married Donald E. Jamieson in Randolph. Don predeceased Elinor on August 29, 2013.
In early years, Elinor lived in Bethel and Bennington and graduated from Randolph High School in 1951. She continued her education at the University of Vermont, graduating cum laude in 1955. Following, she taught courses in food and nutrition at UVM for two years.
Elinor and Don, an educator, lived in Richmond, Jericho, Waterbury, Saxtons River, Barre and Moretown before settling in Waterbury Center in 1998. She was affiliated throughout the years with the Congregational Church in all of the communities in which she lived. She very much enjoyed singing in the church choirs and was an active member of the Handbell Choir in Barre. In addition, Elinor served on several church committees in Richmond and Waterbury as well as served in financial positions for several years at Waterbury Congregational Church.
Involved in volunteer activities throughout the years, Elinor helped on the allocations committee for United Way, served on the board of directors for Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice from 1989 to 1992 and from 1989 until 2001 was a member of the finance committee at CVHHH. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, bird watching, birdsongs, gardening and puzzles.
Elinor is loved and mourned by her children, Pam Foster of Fayston and Bruce Jamieson and his wife Pam Steeg of Huntington; four grandchildren, Andrew Foster and his wife Kelly, Sean Foster and his wife Kayli Whitney, Nathaniel Foster and Casey Jamieson; a great-grandson, Beckham Foster; a sister, Elizabeth Catlett and her husband James of Orono, Maine; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Elinor was preceded in death by a brother, George Parker.
Memorial services will be held from Waterbury Congregational Church on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church dining room. Later inurnment will take place in South View Cemetery, Randolph. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Waterbury Congregational Church Choir Fund, 8 North Main Street, Waterbury, VT 05676.
