Jane A. Goodwin, 99, passed away peacefully at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin on Saturday morning, November 28, 2015. Born in Clinton, New York, on October 31, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Herbert E. and Ruth L. (Strickland) Allen. On June 29, 1940, she married Charles S. Goodwin in Clinton. Charles predeceased Jane on July 27, 1989.
Jane was a 1938 graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, and then continued her education graduating in 1940 with her master’s degree from Columbia Teachers College in New York City. Jane then went on to serve her country during WWII as a member of the Women’s Army Corp. Following her war service, Jane taught art at the American School in Shanghai.
Charles and Jane lived in Garden City, Long Island, New York, where Jane was a homemaker and busy raising her family. Following Charles’s retirement in 1976, they lived full time in the Mad River Valley where Jane enjoyed volunteering at the Warren Public Library. Jane has been a longtime member of Warren United Church. In her leisure time she enjoyed politics, reading, art and theater.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Sarah E. Holler and her husband John of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and her granddaughter, Elisabeth Jane Dang and her husband Anhkhoa of Orlando, Florida. In addition to her husband, Jane was predeceased by her son, Jonathan Goodwin, on October 11, 2004.
Memorial services from Warren United Church will be held this spring at a date and time to be announced.
