Bartlett Earl "Pint" Sherman, 89, a lifelong resident of Duxbury, passed away at The Manor in Morrisville on Sunday morning, January 25, 2015. Born in Duxbury on January 31, 1925, he was the son of the late Bartlett E. and Gladys (LaVanway) Sherman. On March 22, 1947, he married the former Arlene E. West in Duxbury. Arlene predeceased Pint on October 10, 1994.

Pint attended school in Duxbury through seventh grade when he left to work full time on the family farm. He was proud to receive his high school diploma six years ago from Harwood Union High School, the "senior" of that graduating class.

Pint served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations during WWII. Following his discharge, he was first employed by Eastern Magnesia Talc Company in Moretown and Johnson and then went on to work as a foreman for Rowe Contracting Company and Perini Corporation supervising drilling and blasting. Most recently, Pint worked for Berno Lumber Company in Duxbury from which he retired. Industrious and energetic to a fault, retirement apparently was just a word to him. He began a lawn mowing business, drove a delivery truck for A&T Transmission and helped out whenever and whoever needed something accomplished.

His memberships included the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post 59 of Waterbury, a life member of the VFW, the Duxbury Historical Society, South Duxbury Church and was a groomer and member for the Green Mountain Roamers Snowmobile Club.

His leisure time was spent enjoying horseshoes, four-wheeling and snowmobiling, watching basketball and baseball, especially the Red Sox, as well as everything outdoors including camping, hunting and fishing. Pint was the patriarch of a large and loving family who cherish all the time he spent with them and all of the things he did for and with them.

Pint is loved and mourned by his children, Bonnie Rutledge and her husband Joe of Duxbury, Marcia Woodard and her husband Michael of Waterbury Center, Irene Sherman and her life partner Lane Benoit of Moretown, Dana Sherman and her spouse Florence Hurlburt of North Fort Myers, FL, Robin Lemery and her husband Edward of Waterbury Center; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Sherman and his wife Lillian of Moretown; sister-in-law, Rebecca Rutledge of Seville, FL; brother-in-law, Wilford West and his wife Betty of Moretown; two longtime best friends, Carol McGuire and Michelle L'Estrange, both of Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Pint was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Lemery, as well as 11 siblings.

Memorial services will be held from Wesley United Methodist Church in Waterbury on February 5, 2015, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at St. Leo's Hall in Waterbury. Later inurnment will take place in Waterbury Center Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial gifts in lieu of flowers would be appreciated to the Harry N.
