James F. "Jim" Fusting Jr., 61, of Waitsfield, died suddenly as a result of a brain aneurysm on September 5, 2014. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of James Francis Fusting Sr. and Patricia Menzies Fusting. He graduated from Gilman School in Baltimore in 1971 and from St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY, in 1975.

Jim spent his career in the food industry holding executive positions in commodity risk management and supply chain and procurement. He served on the board of directors for Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, CA.

For most of his career, he resided in Fullerton, CA, where he and his wife of 35 years, Patricia (nee Sparks), raised three children who survive him: a daughter, Hillary Sparks Fusting of Barnardsville, NC, and two sons, John Morgan Fusting of San Francisco and Peter MacEvoy Fusting of Los Angeles. Upon retirement in 2013, Jim and Patty moved to Waitsfield, a town they had visited and loved for many years.

Jim enjoyed travel throughout his life and during his years in California he had a special connection to the Monterey Peninsula. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved the ocean, hiking and skiing. Since moving to Vermont, he became a bike enthusiast and could be found taking in the beauty of the Mad River Valley on his daily rides. His greatest passion in life was his family and friends who will miss his warmth, good humor and loving nature.

In addition to his wife, parents and children, Jim is survived by three sisters, Tricia Fusting Dudley (Jeff) of Baltimore, Deborah Fusting Lynn (Jim) of Lutherville, MD, Diane Fusting Green (Jonathan) of Havre de Grace, MD; two brothers, Thomas Fusting (Pam) of Millersville, MD, and Kevin Fusting of Bethesda, MD; his Vermont family, Peggy and Sparky Potter of Waitsfield, Morgan Sparks of Burlington and Gordon Sparks of Waitsfield; numerous nieces, nephews; as well as his beloved Great Pyrenees, Jones.

Burial will be at Fayston Cemetery, Bragg Hill Road, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 20. A service celebrating Jim's life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Waitsfield United Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the charity of your choice.
