The Mad River Valley community is invited to the first public forum being held by the Flemer Barns Task Force on Thursday, January 31, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Waitsfield Elementary School.
The task force will be presenting the first phase of its work which includes history and background information for the Flemer Barns parcel, ownership options and a summary of community needs based on research performed over the last 10 years. The Mad River Valley community is encouraged to participate in the public discussion to follow the presentation.
The task force is also announcing a community survey to solicit ideas for uses of the Flemer Barns parcel. Printed copies of the survey will be distributed at the public forum. In addition, following the public forum, printed copies of the survey will be available at the Waitsfield Town Office and online on the Flemer Barns Task Force website.
The Flemer Barns parcel is a 4.5-acre parcel of land located in Waitsfield Village with two red barns next to the Flemer Field Community Green, also known as the polo field. The town of Waitsfield has an option to purchase the property. The task force will be presenting a variety of ownership options including private, nonprofit and public-private options.
“The opportunity for a community-focused organization to purchase this property in Waitsfield Village is an exciting opportunity for the Mad River Valley. The task force hopes to have a dialogue that involves a broad range of perspectives and ideas for this property,” said Stan Ward, chair of the task force.
Refreshments will be provided.
