What happens when five area chefs join five local farmers in creating a five-course summer feast for their community?
The curious will have to wait until August 19 to find out, but the recipe promises good things. On Sunday, August 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. the Mad River Localvores will be teaming up with Bliss Ridge Farm to put on A Feast From Our Fields.
A celebration focused around local food enthusiasm, A Feast From Our Fields, will unite chefs, farmers, producers and the community. According to organizers, the event promises to be delicious, fun and educationally rich (an illustration of the far-reaching potential of a local food system) all set against the backdrop of Bliss Ridge organic farm in Moretown. A cash bar will feature Lawson’s Finest Liquids, Vermont Wines, Rookies Root Beer and Local Herbal Teas. Waitsfield-based band Last October will serenade with acoustic tunes.
Chefs will include (but are not limited to) Matt Sargent from The Common Man, Gerry Nooney from Sugarbush Resort, Ethan Chamberlain from American Flatbread, Suzanne Slomin from Kingsbury Market Garden and Lisa Gulisano Curtis from The Sweet Spot. Small Step Farm, Kingsbury Market Garden, Hartshorn’s Farm, Gaylord Farm, and Neill Farm are among the participating produce growers, while Floodwoods Farm is supplying 100 percent grass-fed and hormone-free beef and VT Whey-Fed Pigs will be sampling out their swine. A “New England Americana” themed menu will celebrate local flavors while showcasing the talents of local farmers, producers and chefs.
A Feast From Our Fields will be a joint fundraiser benefiting the Mad River Localvores as well as Bliss Ridge Farm’s “revitalize the historic barn project.” A silent auction with a local food theme as well as a raffle will take place inside the barn. Sneak peek items include dinner for four at George Schenk’s cabin, a weekend earthen oven-building class at Yestermorrow Design/Build School, an overnight stay for two at The Pitcher Inn, a natural pantry overhaul, a romantic sunset dinner for two in Bliss Ridge’s most panoramic meadow, Localvore-themed cupcakes from Mix Cupcakerie, Dana Forest Farm shitake logs, von Trapp Farmstead organic cheeses, Knoll Farm jam, an Emile Henry lasagna pan from The Store, Alchemist beer and much more!
