The Warren School Playground committee advanced the idea of installing a
"fitness trail." The fitness trail will be used by adults in the
community, parents working out while their children play on the
playground, schoolchildren under supervision in PE classes and at
recess, and children in the afterschool and summer programs.
"We got a $5,000 grant from the Valley Recreation committee in 2008, and
added another $3,000 from the Warren Playground fund to purchase the
$8,500 equipment. This year we also got a $2,000 grant from the Safe and
Well Program of the Vermont School Boards Insurance Trust to help pay
for installation," explained Warren School Principal Andreas Lehner.
"We've done a lot of renovations on the school playground with the help
of volunteer parents; this project just seemed to be more than we could
ask volunteers to take on, so we recruited Clay Mays, a Warren School
dad and a contractor/builder, to do the work. He's been assisted by Eric
Joslin (another Warren School dad) and his tractor," Lehner added.
Each station on the fit trail has a sign explaining the exercise to
guide people in performing it. Exercises are intended to increase
flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and endurance. It's
installed in the back area behind the Little League field.
