I attended the marvelous Fourth of July parade in Warren, but I was deeply concerned that so many children are allowed to ride on floats and vehicles in a very haphazard and largely unsupervised way. This is very dangerous indeed and seemed to me like an accident waiting to happen.
In The New York Times on July 5, there was an AP report that an 8-year-old boy died after he was run over by a float driven by his father in a Fourth of July parade in central Oklahoma. The police said that the boy fell or got down from a martial arts group float and was struck by the vehicle.
I suggest that the Warren Parade committee review the rules, if any, about children's safety on this great occasion to ensure that the risk of any similar accident is minimized.
