To The Editor:
Having just arrived from Sea Girt, New Jersey, our house is a block from the ocean. For some reason, our house was spared the devastation so many of our neighbors and neighboring towns have endured. Yes, we lost our beach and boardwalk, but when we look on the computer and see what the towns on either side of us had happen to them, our loss of power and trees down seems almost insignificant.
We ride our bikes to Manasquan, Spring Lake, Belmar and Bradley Beach almost every day and to think that the restaurants, shops and homes on the route are no longer there is very upsetting. One year ago Irene made her evil appearance and it was supposed to hit the Jersey Shore. Instead, it hit Waitsfield, Warren and many Vermont towns. After going through the terror of losing everything, the anxiety of being in our house the night Sandy hit, John and I have a new respect for what you all experienced. The Mad River Valley rebounded and so will the Jersey Shore. We are proud to live in both areas where the people have and will bond together to get their communities back together.
