Although I have been an official Waterbury resident for three years, I have worked at the state office complex for over 20. The changes in the village over those years have been remarkable. I make it a point to stop at Ben & Jerry's for a free cone in April. I invested in Green Mountain Coffee Roasters in part on the word of a couple of employees who picked me up hitchhiking. I watched the Alchemist become an instant success and social hub. I spent many fun lunchtimes and evenings at the ice rink. The lawn in front of the state offices was the venue for midday Frisbee, evening soccer and once a year the Agency of Natural Resources Science on the Green event. Rusty Parker is a great little park that comes alive every summer Thursday with the farmers’ market and concert.

Waterbury is a community success story that cannot be allowed to end. Although I and my colleagues in state government will adjust to our new temporary spaces, we are looking forward to returning to Waterbury to work, shop and play. Please make it so.
