Over the last 20 years, wind “farms” on a grand, subsidized scale have been built in many European countries, especially Spain and Germany, with very disappointing results. Readers are encouraged to take a look at these experiences when forming an opinion on the Lowell wind project. Vermont’s Public Service Board is considering a highly subsidized, intermittent, non-base-load wind “farm” on precious mountain ridges that sacrifices the very namesake of our state – “green mountains.” The proposed wind turbines will permanently scar the landscape and skyline for a marginal amount of very expensive energy. This is too high a price to pay for an “environmental” masquerade.
