It seems that many people don't realize that very large roads and wide
cleared areas are required for commercial wind installations because
these are not honestly portrayed in most photos that are available of
ridgeline wind projects.
We are not radicals out to scare
anyone. We are your neighbors, residents of the towns encompassing the
ridge and people who love this place. We do not want to see the ridge
ruined solely for some minimal and even questionable reduction in our
consumption of fossil fuels and to generate fat profits for out-of-town
investors.
I was also dismayed by the implication that the
"false construction notices" had originated with our group. This is
simply not the case. We were probably more disturbed by the notice than
anyone else.
And I would like to point out that our group is not
conducting a "premature political battle . . . against a project that is
merely in the feasibility" stages. We are working to foster a timely
community outreach and discussion on the pros and cons of a project of
this scale and impact that will, as the current legislation stands, be
decided by the three members of the Public Service Board and not by our
townspeople.
We invite reasonable and polite discourse and to
that end we have arranged for a presentation followed by Q&A at The
Skinner Barn on Wednesday, September 22, at 5 p.m. to discuss these
issues, and we hope that those interested will be able to find the time
to join us for an informative meeting inclusive of all points of view.
